PLEASE NOTE

These walks will be strenuous and long for people not used to walking. There are some significant uphill sections and walking over uneven ground.  Participants will need a good level of fitness and anyone with mobility issues should not consider participating. However, for regular walkers, especially hill walkers, these are short, easy walks.
Walking boots + rain gear + food / thermos

Saturday Neolithic axes walk: 9.5km long, total of 426m ascent. Includes- sites GAT has been investigating for axe-working, Dinas hillfort, burial cairns, roundhouse settlement, Graig Lwyd (Neolithic quarry and main cliff face).
NB start and end points at Tyn y Llwyfan Farm (SH 694712). Start time TBA. On this walk there is a point where someone could leave the walk safely and be directed back to the cars, if required.

Day 1 Route

Dinas – one of the possible sources of axe blades

Sunday  Rowen Prehistoric Landscape: 12.5 km. The circuit of Tal y Fan from Rowen YHA is has a total ascent of 463m but could be made shorter if we missed out the Druid’s Circle. This includes 2 Neolithic tombs, standing stones, mini stone circle, Roman road, roundhouse settlements, burnt mound, BA cist, cairn circle, Druid’s Circle stone circle, old reservoir, Maen Penddu standing stone, quarry, Caer Bach mini hillfort.

Day 2 Route
NB Start time TBA. The start and end points can be at Rowen YHA hostel or else at lay-by car park at SH 720 716 for day participants. Walkers should only leave the group if accompanied by someone who is familiar with the area or has good map reading skills. If there was someone in the group who could accompany the person wanting to go back, then there would be a short cut part way round.
